NOTE ABOUT FINAL WRITING ASSIGNMENT: This week I would like the 1st graders to reflect on their year in first grade. This will be their final writing assignment of the year. It will not be graded but it will be used as a writing assessment to show how their writing has improved since the beginning of the year and as an example of each child’s writing for the second grade teacher next year. As it will be used as an assessment of what each student can do on their own, please help your child as little as possible. I want to see how they write their sentences, their spelling, and how they compose their thoughts on paper. The prompt for their writing is below:
Think about your year as a first grader. What was your favorite thing about first grade? What was your favorite event? The Fall Festival? The Epiphany Play? A field trip? Something else? What was your favorite thing to learn about and why? What was your least favorite thing to learn about and why? What advice would you give to a kindergartener who is going to be going into first grade next year? Is there anything else about first grade would you like to share?
Please have your child complete his/her writing in the writing journals and upload a picture by Friday. If for some reason you need more time to complete the assignment just let me know!
